International Beethoven Competition inspires audience

In honor of Ludwig van Beethoven, the generously-endowed International Telekom Beethoven Competition Bonn is held in his birthplace, with young pianists from all over the world taking part. From December 2–10, 2011 Deutsche Telekom holds this challenging competition every two years. The fourth competition, to take place from December 2 to 10, 2011, will focus on Beethoven’s piano works from all phases of his creative life. They will be placed in a programmatic context designed to emphasize the outstanding importance of the composer as a visionary source of ideas for the international world of music. It is a declared objective of the Telekom Beethoven Competition Bonn to promote young professional artists and to offer them an international platform. We therefore expect the participants to present a wide repertoire, stretching from the Baroque through the Classical, Romantic and Classical Modern styles and demanding both technical perfection and versatility of interpretation. The winners of the competition receive not only attractive cash prizes (EUR 30,000 for first place alone) but also numerous impressive concert bookings in Germany and abroad, many of them with major orchestras. The three prize winners from the last competition, Hinrich Alpers, Jordi Bitlloch and Einav Yarden, are already in great demand on the world’s concert platforms. What makes it so special: All the rounds of the competition are open to the public. Some 6,500 listeners attended the initial rounds at Telekom Headquarters and the final in the Beethovenhalle. It is only necessary to purchase admission tickets for the final concert with the Beethoven Orchestra under the baton of chief conductor,
Stefan Blunier. All the other rounds can be enjoyed free of charge.
