Most-visited cultural centre of Germany
For visitors from here and abroad the Kunst- und Ausstellungshalle with its changing exhibitions is a centre of attraction. In 2001, the Kunst- und Ausstellungshalle was the most-visited cultural centre of Germany with a number of visitors of about 1.1 million.
As a museum with permanently changing exhibitions, the Kunst- und Ausstellungshalle of the Federal Republic of Germany offers an eventful cultural programme of international meaning. With its interesting programme the Kunst- und Ausstellungshalle displays the flow of the German, European and world-wide cultural developments and its complex relations.
The exhibition spectrum ranges from visual art and cultural history up to science and technology. Here, the Kunst- und Ausstellungshalle backs on a wide national and international cooperation.
Film or theatre performances expand the cultural programme. These events take place in the forum, in the restaurant or open-air on the roof garden or the Museumsplatz.
With three prominent light towers as an inviting landmark, a roof garden as the so-called ?fifth façade? and a number of columns representing the 16 federal provinces, Gustav Peichl, an architect from Vienna, marks this unmistakeable location and emphasizes the artificial rank of this building.
Between May and September, a colourful open-air programme takes place on the roof garden and the Museumsplatz. Moreover, the ?GA Sommergarten? invites for a musical early-morning drink with folk, rock and jazz music onto the roof of the Kunst- und Ausstellungshalle. A special highlight is the annual Museumsmeilenfest (Museumsmeilen Festival) in May / June of every year.
