Bonn in the 19th century

The city of Bonn experienced peaceful times in the second half of the 19th century. Trade primarily formed the city’s economic base.Numerous millionaires took up residence in the south of the city and in Bad Godesberg - the Gründerzeit (founding epoch) has characterised the cityscape to this day. The university was also considerably extended by the new institute buildings near to the castle Poppelsdorf.

1887:
Bonn becomes a county borough.

1898:
Construction of the first fixed Rhine bridge between Bonn and Beuel.

1904:
Incorporation of Dottendorf, Kessenich, Poppelsdorf and Endenich within Bonn.
