"Villa Basilika" and "Oppidum Bonnense"

The individual germ cells of the city development are sketched in a newer city map: (1) Villa Basilica around the Cassiusstift (2) settlement at the monastery Dietkirchen near the ruins of the old Roman camp (3) Castra Bonnensia (4) first mentioned around 1200

The Romans left and the Franks arrived. They, too, settled in the old Roman fort and named it “Bonnburg”.
 
Dates and facts:

804:
First mention of the settlement “villa basilica” by the cathedral, the heart of the city in the Middle Ages and today.

977:
The Villich convent founded.

c. 1000:
Shift of the centre of gravity away from the old Roman camp and towards the settlement by the Minster cathedral to which the name of “Bonn” passed.

1151:
Consecration ion of the twin-spired church if Schwarzreindorf.

1210:
Building of the Godesburg begun by the Archbishop of Cologne, Dietrich von Hengebach.

1244:
Wall privilege granted by Archbishop Konrad von Hochstaden cempletes Bonn’s topographical development into a town.

1288:
The formation of a civic council completes Bonn’s development into a town in a legal sense.
