The abbey Maria Laach is located in the “youngest scenery” of Europe – the Vulkaneifel. It was around 10000 B.C., when the Laacher See with its surrounding chain of hills came into being. The abbey, which was founded in 1093, accommodates 60 Benedictine monks today, who live according to the Benedictine rule “ora et labora”. Next to their profession of faith they spend lots of their time with liturgical research.
For more than 30 years now, concerts with religious music have been taking place at the Laacher basilica. Since the re-inauguration of the big Stahlhuth organ in 2000, these concerts have been known for their wonderful music of the Romanesque period, for which the work of 1910 is especially destined for.
