Em Höttche

Restaurant "Em Höttche" near the old town hall

Where Beethoven danced with Barbe in former times, you can now find his traces in a culinary way: rustic dishes, which the big composer loved to eat in his favourite restaurant, can still be found on the menu.

The history of this traditional restaurant can even be gathered from the ceiling beams: a little excursion through the past six decades with various interesting stories, such as a story about Elisabeth Kurzrock, who was burned as a witch in 1638, or a story about Beethoven, who is said to have danced with Barbe here, his first love.
Today, there are two things being done most of the time here: drinking “Kölsch”, the famous beer of the Rhineland, and eating rustic dishes. The menu contains traditional dishes like “Halver Hahn”, “Reibekuchen”, brewery specialties like “Rhenish Sauerbraten” and “Schweinshaxe”, but also salads and soups, meaning something for every taste. In addition, there is a wide menu of the day and always specialties of the respective season.
