The fortress, which is located west of Adendorf, was already mentioned in 893 as “Munichhusen” and is said to have belonged to the monks of the monastery of the German Reich in Prüm in the Eifel. The oldest part of the fortress, which was surrounded by water ditches in former times, is a calcareous-tufa building in the north-western corner, which mostly comes from the 12th century.
The western round tower with its walls two metres thick is a little younger though. The free-standing tower from the middle of the 13th century stretches the building high up. The angular corner-tower of a side wing shows a walled-up round arch (13th century) under two walled-up windows. For the two towers Roman cast walling was used for the foundations, which was broken out of the Roman water pipes nearby. The dwelling of the fortress, which accommodates a stud farm, an indoor riding arena and numerous riding stables today, comes from the 18th century.
