The noble fortress „Wiesheim“ comes from Carolingian times. In the 16th century, from which remains of the fore-fortress come (coach house), the fortress became the property of the Messrs. von Zweifel. In 1833, it became the property of the Barons of Loe. The manor-house was built after 1840 and was renovated and restored in 1954/55.
The manor-house, a two-floor Baroque building of 1840 located at the southern side, and two corner-towers corresponding with each other diagonally supplement the fortress. A long quarry-stone section from 1550 forms the eastern side. The brickwork section of the 18th century at the northern and western side, which were destroyed during the war, were replaced by new buildings in 1962. What has been maintained is the gabled stone entrance of 1741 at a newly erected gate construction. Today, the fortress Wissem accommodates a museum for storybook art and youth-book illustrations, which is unique in Europe.
