In 1230, the castle Müttinghoven became the property of Johannes von Löwenburg of the Abbey Heisterbach. It changed its owner quite often then in the following five centuries. Today, the Barons Raitz von Frenz of Münster are the owners of the castle. Since 1998, the castle and the lands have been leased separately.
The castle originally was a four-wing building surrounded by water ditches. The dwelling is divided into a two-floor, seven-axle, plastered main body of a building with a central entrance, a flight of outdoor stairs made of quarry stones and a curb roof.
