At the beekeeper’s show stand of the “Honey Cottage” (Hönighäuschen) visitors get an insight into the life of honeybees, wild bees and hornets. In the figure “Hagen von Tronje carries the murdered Siegfried”, a wooden sculpture with a height of 2.60 metres, there lives a bee colony which can be seen through a glass plate all year around. A “Lüneburger Lagd” (??) demonstrates beekeeping from a time, when beekeepers wanted to keep away the evil from their homes by putting scaring faces on the bee baskets. In the “Honey Cottage” visitors can taste bio-certified honeys from the Siebengebirge, watch the beekeeper when casting candles and inform themselves about modern beekeeping. In summer, free guided tours to the bee colonies are offered for schools classes and kindergartens.

The ”Nibelungenhalle”, which is located in Königswinter at the world-famous Drachenfels, was opened in 1913 as a picture gallery and memory hall on the occasion of Richard Wagner’s 100th birthday.
After the “Nibelungenhalle” was dedicated to his big musical drama “Der Ring der Nibelungen”, it was almost obvious to establish a dragon cave here. This dragon cave was supposed to demonstrate the story of the dragon Fafnir and Siegfried’s victory over this monster for the young and the old, but especially for the little ones.
The reptile zoo at the “Nibelungenhalle” shows the descendants of the saurians. Next to alligators, saurians, snakes and geckos you will find tarantulas and scorpions here. The reptile zoo presents one of Germany’s biggest exhibitions of living reptiles.
