> Community of Eitorf

The centre of the beautiful Sieg valley

Eitorf is one of the oldest villages of the “Auelgau” (Auel district), whose district earls had their residences in Siegburg on the fortress Siegburg (Michaelsberg). Eitorf was first mentioned in a document of Emperor Konrad II. from 1144. Today, Eitorf is a modern residential area with 20,000 inhabitants, most of which live in the centre of Eitorf.

Eitorf is located in the nature preserve Bergisches Land at the middle reaches of the river Sieg. The area rises above the extended valley with the community of Eitorf (83 metres above sea level) on both sides of the river Sieg up to the highest rising ground, the “Hoher Schaden” (388 metres above sea level). The scenic charm of this varied and well-wooded minor mountain range and the manifold leisure, sports and recovery possibilities make Eitorf become an ideal place for an active stay. Next to the water park and the possibilities to play golf, to go canoeing and fishing, to play tennis and much more, numerous marked hiking and cycling trails invite to hiking, cycling and mountain-bike pleasures.

The creative cultural scene in Eitorf has been recognized for years already. It offers a wide spectrum ranging from classical music to ballet, theatre, cabaret, art days with art activities, programmes for children and young people, lectures up to prize-winning cinema programmes.
