Haus der Geschichte der Bundesrepublik Deutschland (House of the History of the Federal Republic of Germany)

German history is brought to life here. About 7,000 original exhibits – ranging from the Chancellors’ railway salon car to an original cinema of the 1950s up to pieces of the Berlin Wall – are displayed here. Temporary exhibitions and events complete the programme.

Beethoven-Haus Bonn (Beethoven House)

The Beethoven House in Bonn is one of the most-visited memorial sites of musicians in the world. More than 150 authentic objects from the biggest Beethoven collection worldwide, such as instruments and personal things from Beethoven’s possession, letters, portraits, sheets of music and much more, invite to a journey into the world of the great composer. Changing special exhibitions make a visit to Ludwig van Beethoven’s house of birth become a real experience. The Digital Beethoven House right next door invites to a multimedia and interactive trip through Beethoven’s life.

LVR - LandesMuseum

As a modern subject-related museum, the LVR - LandesMuseum presents its testimonies from Rhenish history, art and culture from the very beginning of the Stone Age up until today. Nine centres of gravity presented in clearly produced sectors offer experiential views into the research and collection of the museum. Special exhibitions complete the programme.

StadtMuseum Bonn and Ernst-Moritz-Arndt-Haus

Next to the regularly changing exhibitions, the StadtMuseum’s permanent exhibition shows the 2,000 year-old history of the City of Bonn from Roman times until today. The Arndt-Haus (Adenauerallee 79) is only opened for special exhibitions and events.

August-Macke-Haus

This is where August Macke lived from 1911 until his death in 1914. The artist’s only studio, which is still in its original state, is located in the attic and shows works of him and other Rhenish Expressionists.

Akademisches Kunstmuseum – The University’s Collection of Antiquities

Ägyptisches Museum – Collection of Egyptian Artefacts

Botanische Gärten Bonn (Botanical Gardens)

The Botanical Gardens of the Rheinische-Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität zu Bonn, which has developed from an old Renaissance garden, are said to be the most beautiful and traditional ones. In the Botanical Gardens at Poppelsdorf Palace and in the useful-plant gardens at theKatzenburgweg about 11,000 plant species are cultivated – meaning the multiple of the species existing in the Federal Republic of Germany. The gardens invite the visitors to their greenhouses and the open ground throughout the year.

Schumannhaus – Musikbibliothek (Schumann House – Musical Library)

The Schumann House comes from a time around 1790. Original letters and documents of Robert and Clara Schumann. The Städtische Musikbibliothek (urban musical library) in the house offers 47,000 notes, books, CDs and DVDs. Private house concerts on a regular basis.

Heimatmuseum Altwindeck e.V. (Home Museum Altwindeck)

Max Ernst Museum

In 2005, the Max Ernst Museum has opened its doors as the worldwide first and unique museum, which is dedicated to the outstanding artist Max Ernst (Brühl 1891 – 1976 Paris) and his extensive Oeuvre. For the first time, the work of the big Dadaist and Surrealist can be seen gathered here at his birthplace. The main emphasis of the collection is put on the almost complete graphic and sculptural Oeuvre and the so-called D-Paintings – presents to the
artist Dorothea Tanning, his wife.
