
Siegfried's dragon is a legend, but you can experience the successers of the dinosaurs in the reptile zoo at the Nibelungenhalle, quite close to the legendary Drachenfels. In various gam preserves in the region children can get to know native animals.

You can enjoy a wonderful panoramic view to the Siebengebirge from the extinct volcano in the nature preserve Rodderberg. At the foot of the Rodderberg there is a geological training trail.

The Natural Reserve “Siebengebirge” is North Rhine-Westphalia’s oldest natural reserve and offers diversified places of interest like the quarry “Welberg” or the castle ruin “Rosenau”.
The recently opened “Naturparkhaus” with its experimental path offers a permanent exhibition dealing with topics like geology, vulcanology, quarries, forest, nature conservation and cultural landscape. In the experimental forest nearby the visitors get multimedia-based information about the flora and the fauna of the region.
The region Ahr-Rhein–Eifel offers a number of game preserves, which can be discovered on hiking routes.

The Wildpark Rolandseck is located high above the Rhine Valley right in front of the doors of Bonn. Embedded in an old beech stand, the trail enables the visitor to watch red deer, fallow deer, wild boar and moufflons quite closely. Especially children love to touch and feed the numerous goats, monkeys and ponies.
