Bonn Region

Being Outdoors

Tips for hikers:

The successful Rheinsteig offers challenging and varied paths from Wiesbaden to Bonn on the right-hand side of the Rhine valley covering about 300 kilometres. The Natursteig Sieg runs for 115 kilometres from Siegburg to Windeck, through diverse countryside. The new high-quality long-distance hiking path called Bergischer Weg provides connecting paths to the Rheinsteig and Natursteig Sieg and the 116 kilometre long Roman canal hiking path runs via a total of seven stages from Nettersheim to Cologne. The countryside and hills of the Siebengebirge, the oldest German nature conservation area, are a highlight of hiking tourism.

Tips for cyclists:

There are also a large number of options to discover the Rhineland by bicycle: The Rhine cycle path runs over more than 900 kilometres and most of this is through Germany.  Another highly recommended and interesting cycle route is the Wasserburgenroute: The route totalling 365 kilometres follows the edge of the Eifel through the region with the largest number of waterside castles in Europe.  This tour is particularly attractive for families as it passes up to 130 palaces and castles and goes through the triangle of cultural capitals of Cologne, Bonn and Aachen.  One tip is the mobile cycle guide app, which was developed by RadRegionRheinland. The app contains five cycle routes in the Bonn/Rhine-Sieg region combining topics such as culture, political heritage or enjoyment on multimedia.
