One Weekend in the Bonn Region

Bonn and the surrounding region offer many different ways of spending a weekend in the countryside!

In the Natural region of Sieg you will come across impressive river landscapes and beautiful views. The Natursteig Sieg provides pure hiking enjoyment over 160 km away from the popular tourist paths. Animal-lovers will also not be short-changed on the Sieg. The species protection project to re-establish previously native migratory fish is very important here.

The Siebengebirge also offers beautiful destinations for excursions, such as the Drachenfels, which is shrouded in legend. From the romantic castle ruins you will have a dream-like view over the Rhine panorama. Drachenburg Castle with its historic, magnificent architecture is definitely worth a visit. Petersberg is another place to visit. There you will find the Guesthouse of the Federal Government (Gästehaus der Bundesregierung), which is used not only to accommodate official visitors, but also as an upmarket hotel for discerning travellers.

Anyone who wants to take some exercise, but still be able to relax should discover the region on an E-Bike. The Bergische Touristikverein also offers various E-Bike themed tours through Lohmar, Much, Neunkirchen-Seelscheid and Ruppichteroth. These challenging and picturesque circular routes lead to Gammersbacher Mühle, Burg Sülz, Schiefelbusch farm and many other impressive locations in the region.

The Rhine Voreifel is a paradise for hikers, cyclists, golfers, horseriders and nature-lovers in the Rhineland Nature Park. You will encounter a large number of palaces and castles, mills that are still in operation and churches with architectural merit that provide evidence of the region's Roman past. For example the Roman canal hiking path runs from the Eifel to Cologne directly through the Rhine-Voreifel countryside and offers an enjoyable tour both for hikers as well as cyclists.

For culinary connoisseurs and people who enjoy exercising, the Red wine hiking path and the Ahrsteig in the Ahrtal are popular destinations for excursions. A walk through the wild landscape can be rounded off at every corner with a wine from the Ahr valley. Anyone who wants to know more, can learn about the background to the history of wine-growing in the Ahrtal in the AhrWeinForum or on a wine cellar tour. You can also relax to your heart's content in the Ahr-Resort. In addition to the mineral water paradise and the range of saunas, the facilities also include a Medical Fitness-Studio, a beauty spa, restaurants and boutiques.m, Restaurants und Boutiquen komplettiert.
