Travel just like the romantics - upstream on the Rhine
The Rhine still casts its spell: The Bonn region is considered the gateway to the Romantic Rhine, but the stretch from here to Bingen features vineyards, fortresses built on cliffs and idyllic towns that have enchanted romantic travellers from time immemorial. Steamers carry tourists upstream and downstream from Easter to the end of October. The scenery can be experienced in a particularly spectacular fashion every year on the first Saturday in May, during Rhine in Flames.

Rhine in flames

Experience the traditional firework event on one of the most beautiful sections of the Rhine between the cities of Linz and Bonn. Participate in the extraordinary experience on board of one of the 50 illuminated riverboats, when five brilliant aerial fireworks and over 800 red Bengalese fires bathe the waterfront and sights in a solemn light. Watch mountains and castles getting illuminated by the magical light of the fireworks and let yourself be overwhelmed by many other surprises in celebration of the anniversary.
Cruise along the Rhine when the guests who visit the cities of Linz, Remagen, Unkel, Bad Honnef, Königswinter and Bonn with their colorful musical supporting program, welcome the passing passenger liners. At the close of the evening, enjoy the big anniversary firework in the Bonner Rheinaue, accompanied by the stunning sounds of the synchronized music played.
The Schumann Festival in Bonn was first staged in 1998 by Markus Schuck and Andreas Etienne under the name
The Festival takes place every year under a different theme and combines music, theatre, film, dance and lectures in a large number of events with primarily young artists.
Seven at one Stroke
The event with approximately 1,000 participants is for more than 40 years very successful.
Every year, numerous hikers are coming to the Rhine to hike 28 km along the Rhine to the Drachenfels.
The Siebengebirgsmuseum in the heart of Königswinter shows the life and history associated with Königswinter and the Siebengebirge. As well as the many exhibits from the first heyday of the Drachenfels and Rhine romanticism, the permanent exhibition also displays interesting items on the use of the countryside and its history. The museum's own bakery in the front courtyard is fired up every two weeks and local master bakers bake bread there, which is then offered for sale.
The Siegtal Festival takes place annually in the summer in Siegburg, Hennef, Eitorf and Windeck. A programme worth seeing and hearing is on offer including classical music, jazz, rock, theatre, cabaret and art as well as entertainment for children – with 27 individual programme items, there is bound to be something to suit every taste.
Every year on the first Sunday in July, it's a car-free day in the Sieg valley. A route of about 120 kilometres is blocked to all traffic in this area. This means a lot of fun for cyclists, skaters but also hikers. Other attractions such as open shops, music and cultural events as well as street festivals provide even more fun and entertainment. There is plenty of food on the menu as well. This ranges from small snacks to culinary specialities – there is something for every taste on car-free days. Anyone who still has some energy left, can celebrate until midnight at the after-bike party together with other Siegtal tourers.
